Cytomegalovirus (CMV)

Cytomegalovirus, classified as human herpesvirus type 5, shares many characteristics with other herpesvirus family members. Similarities in virion size, organization and genome structure and the unfortunate ability to establish a persistent and latent infection in the host are obvious. Cytomegalovirus infections frequently occur in immunocompromised individuals.

Laboratory strains of cytomegalovirus are useful to investigators researching vaccine development, immune response or diagnostic methods. Growth and purification of CMV can result in viral stocks at infectious titers greater than 108 TCID50 units per ml.

Our expertise with this virus enables us to perform a variety of assays to assess antiviral activity of your compound.
